About Us

The Orissa State Volunteers and Social Workers Association (OSVSWA) was established in 1980 by a group of distinguished freedom fighters, social workers, and social activists, initiating a movement to promote volunteerism and social action based on the Gandhian philosophy of rural development to create a self-dependent rural society.

We work with donors, advisors, local staff and volunteers to tackle social and rural development issues in the state of Odisha, giving support to the local communities through activities connected with their subsistence and livelihoods, with special dedication and commitment towards the underprivileged, marginalized and excluded sections of rural and tribal population.
OSVSWA has also been engaged with few burning social, economic, environmental and action for youth issues from time to time and active in related public policy and networking activities in association with various government, international and local partners.

Mission
  • to achieve immediate and lasting change in the lives and livelihoods of the unprivileged, disadvantaged, and marginalized sections of society;
  • to empower and build capacities of communities through meaningful participation in the local self-government system, and promotion and strengthening of the community governance system
  • to undertake multi-sector development interventions using breakthrough innovations and technological initiatives based on ‘Development through Participation’ and ‘Development through Sustainability’ concepts
  • to create development models and work for wider dissemination and replication at all levels
  • to transparently share experiences and ideas with stakeholders and establish functional and long-lasting partnerships, collaboration, association and networking with various concerned agencies, organizations, technological and scientific bodies for enriching and multiplying its activities
  • to lobby and advocate for activities on burning issues affecting lives, livelihoods, and environment.

Management

The governing board, comprising members from diversified disciplines, provides strategic navigation to OSVSWA in management affairs. The management structure consists of two wings; the policy making domain, executed by Executive Body and operational domain, executed by Executive Director along with consultants

Policy Making Wing

At present, the organization is having 7 members in Executive Body to asses and overview activities and performances, adhering to the mission and vision of the organization. The policy making is headed by the Secretary.

Operational Wing

This wing is spearheaded by Executive Director, who looks after the entire gamut of organizational affairs, being supported by the Executive Members, Programme Managers and consultants
